Ok, so I've got some folks on here doing av. Cool.

What's rig consist of? How'd do you do it? I use Traktor, my V4, a MIDI merger, a few DVD players, and another laptop running either Videodelic, Arkaos, or Livid Union...

I don't really have any questions per se about how one does this since I actually do it here in San Francisco. There's a band from here, Timo Mas that does it, but it's more theatre than I what I do, but they're actually quite good for what it is so if you get a chance to see them, do so. Jack Dangers from Meat Beat Manifesto is one of the members. I saw them perform at AVIT last year with DJ Shadow. Pretty cool. Besides them, though, no one really performs often out in the dance scene, which is where I live. My AV stuff is pretty much shake your ass freak out kinda stuff, where I'm pretty much playing like I would if I'm spinning vinyl attached to video monkey button madness.

I'm more interested in hearing stories straight from the field and the people doing it. Stuff like what was your first thing that go you going? What's your rig consist of? Do you precompose your set or do you rock the bag, so to speak? Red Bull or Rockstar? Stoli or Skyy? Stuff like that I guess.

Some of you have chimed in, so don't be shy. Introduce yourselves and be represented. C'mon now. We're at the tip of something really wicked here.

DubCowboy up here in Humboldt... now working under the moniker of Krushmeister is getting set up for AV. I only know cuz he's asked me to conribute my video set with his. I can't wait to see what his set up is . It's all hardware based i believe. As a Vj/Video artist all of my attention during live sets is on moving between clips and tweeking out settings in RT. The AV set things sounds cool but i just cant see how one person can do both audio and video and have both be off the hook.

I'll update on this after my first show with him.

I'm up in Vancouver BC. Been putting together visuals for sometime now. My G4 and projector with a few fresnals is all I really need. Also stash 200' of fabric in the closet for custom screens. All the video is custom, we do all the shooting, edits, and effects, and play through flowmotion. It all works great.

Vancouver, huh? Sweet. I met a couple of VJ's up there a few years back when they were doing a show at some massive that was at some big ass building that had an escalator. It was at something called the International Center or something like that. The crew I met were working back in the theatre part of the building, and I kicked with them for a few hours. Totally right on people. I love Canadians. :) I think that was actually the last massive I've been to...besides Burning Man, but that's not so much a "rave" as it is an experience.

So Flowmotion, huh? VJ Culture turned me onto that, but I'm all Mac. Been wanting to get a PC, but Steve Jobs must have cast some evil spell on me...

Are you just doing visuals or are you playing music in tandem?

My name is John Brewington - Producer, Sound Brew productions.

I perform live, interactive 3D geometric projected visuals that are music responsive.
I use my keybourd, mouse, midi keyboard and audio feed from the DJ to have my pre-set scenes change shap, size, color, and orientation roght then-and-ther to my interpretation of the music. I can place any events logo into my show a day ahead of time. I have 100's of scenes that by thier nature cannot be the same twice. My show never loops and can bounce to any music style or live performance from a midi guitar, keyboard or drum.
I currently use A Doepfer Regelwerk, Oxygen 8 for MIDI control.
The software I use is for PC only called "ZUMA" from www.3dmaxmedia.com $180

I'm doing them. I use a pair of DVJ X1 DVD Turntables, and a Macintosh running Arkaos to further affect my mixes.

I recently put together a demo that consists of a mix of hip hop music videos for a club that's looking to do a music video night. While the source content (the music videos) aren't my own creations (obviously) the delivery method is unique.

My content (audio & video) is recorded on DVDs. I then "DJ" with those, and use Arkaos as a sort of performance effector.

Here's a link to the earlier mentioned, demo:
