Hi all
I work with a multimedia collective called Lucid. We throw events in the Bay Area that combine DJs, live music, visuals and fashion. We have worked in clubs in the past, but now we are looking for a more underground space in SF in which to throw an small event (100-200 people) that displays all these elements. We would love to find an independent gallery space that would be willing to host us for an evening, but any space that's big enough and has good acoustics for sound would be great. We have our own equipment for sound and visuals. Please PM me if you might know of an available space, or if you are just interested in knowing more about what we do.
Thanks!
Jess

Re: Seeking space for multimedia event

Why Underground? Just curios. What kind of budget do you have and how late do you want the event to go? How big is your sound system and how many screens do you want to setup? Do you want a stage? Do you plan on serving alcohol all night? Is this your first stab at the underground? -

It's hard to answer all your questions as of yet since a lot of that is flexibe depending on what type of space we are able to find. Most members of our collective have a lot of experience throwing both outdoor and indoor renegades with just DJs, but this is kind of a different deal since we are combining several different elements. For that reason the demands on the space are obviously a bit higher.
We would ideally be able to go from around 9 or 10 pm until- and the ability to run our own bar would be nice. In the past we have had the DJs, musicians and visuals folks all on a stage together with the screen behind them, which has worked great, but this could also work well without a stage as long as we could all be set up in roughly the same area. Also, the fewer sound restrictions we have to deal with the better, but we are also very respectful of the space and aware that we may need to tone down the sound a bit to accommodate.
As of right now I'm just kind of trying to get some feelers out there to see what kind of spaces might come our way, and how flexible people are about getting payment upfront vs. a portion of door/bar. Ideally we could find some sort of studio space where the artists could benefit from spotlighting their work in the event as well as our own.
